Part Dictionary
Use this dictionary to help you understand the parts used in the tutorials
Breadboard
-
A board that can be used to test circuits. Allows for the easy testing and fixing of circuits without needing to solder and unsolder connections.
Wires
-
Metal strands used to transfer electrical current. During the duration of these tutorials we will be using male to male jumper wires, which are used to connect parts of an electric circuit.
Resistor
-
An electrical component used to reduce the flow of current. Used to avoid shorting out components.
Battery snap
-
A wire used to connect a 9V battery to your circuit.
DC motor
-
An electrical component that converts DC energy to Mechanical Energy.
Arduino
-
Microcontrollers which are used to take an input (your code) and turn it into an output to be picked up by your circuit.
Push Buttons
-
A simple input used to control electrical input. In the push buttons we will be using in these tutorials, current flows diagonally.
Light emitting diode (LED)
-
A diode that acts as a light source. As it is a diode, it can conduct current in one direction but not the other.
QTI sensor
-
A component used to detect IR signals.
Transistors
-
An electrical component that is used to switch an electronic signal on or off.
Capacitor
-
Works like a battery in where it can store electrical charges. Capacitors usually charge up to full before discharging.
